COLUMBIA, S.C. - After retiring from the Army, Patricia Wortherly-Foye decided to choose a career to assist Veterans in making what is often life-changing decisions about their benefits.

Wortherly-Foye retired from the United States Army as a Senior Human Resources Manager in August of 2016. She was initially excited to be retired after serving 26 years in various duty stations around the world, to include Germany, numerous tours in Korea, Kuwait, Virginia, Georgia, Maine, New York, North Carolina, and finally returning home to South Carolina to close out a challenging yet rewarding career.

After taking some time off, Patricia decided in 2017 that it was time to join the work force. She submitted several job applications with no luck, or even a phone call for an interview.  A fellow veteran told her about a program that assisted veterans with finding a job. She went to Vocational Rehabilitation located in the Veterans Affairs Regional Office, where she met with a counselor and completed the necessary paperwork.

After a few days, Patricia was contacted by the staff at the South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs to work under the Non-Paid Work Experience Program formerly known as the Veterans Success Program.  It was during this opportunity, that learned about Veterans benefits in South Carolina that she was unaware had existed.  Patricia also learned the claims process channels and was able to articulate that information to callers from the around the nation inquiring about benefits that South Carolina offers our Veterans.

Wortherly-Foye has since been hired to work full time for the South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs to serve as a Claims Representative to help Veterans through the VA Appeals process. SCDVA thanks Patricia for her service to our nation and to our Veterans.
